Story Of The Day: Dec 15, 2006

Browncoats, the diehard fans of Joss Whedon’s Firefly were all abuzz last week when it was announced Multiverse would be creating an MMO based on the show. However, the best post I’ve seen on the topic came today — and is also our “Story of the Day” for December 15, 2006.

Written from a fan’s perspective, Michael Zenke’s post on GameSetWatch does a great job of critically looking at what type of problems and pitfalls a developer might face in making Firefly into an MMO. Why making the transition from TV show to MMO just might not work. He supports his believes by citing how other MMOs have panned out to compose a very strong article.

The article definitely has a lot of thought put into it, and it surely helps that he didn’t have to scribe it up on December 7. While writers don’t always have the luxury of taking extra time to say their peace, Zenke’s article definitely benefits from it. It’s the best article in the ‘Verse about theFirefly MMO, that’s darn sure — and it is such because of the extra time taken in crafting it. So next time you want to toss up an off the cuff response to a news story, maybe you should take some extra time to stew on the news for a bit. You might just end up with a better article when it’s all said and done.
